The best method for a real noticeable difference in performance.

Remapping is a process where the actual ECU (the computer inside the car) is reprogrammed with improved performance settings.

The ECU (Engine Control Unit) is basically a micro computer stored in the engine which controls everything, particularly the engine. It’s these engine settings that control everything from the mixture of fuel to the turbo boost pressure, and its these settings that get up-rated.

Typically a remapped Roadster can increase it’s bhp at 5,250rpm from 80 to well over 100 (depending on varying circumstances) – even the turbo pressure gauge leaps to 1.5bar – compared to the usual 1bar. This puts the performance on a par with the Brabus!

Why not do this from manufacture?

Smarts are tuned at the factory to allow for varying qualities of fuel around the world, and the method in which it burns this fuel (particually with also varying alttitudes). Standard settings aim to give the Smart the best ‘all round’ combustion to achieve the best emissions and the best economy. Remappng simply ‘trains’ the Smart to our grade of fuel & environmental settings of the UK and allows the car to tune itself accordingly. As a result, the Smart car is left with far more performance, and often greater efficiency without sacrificing on any of the other qualities.

What difference can I expect to get?

On driving, you’ll notice immediately the bigger part in the acceleration the turbo now plays – on the Roadsters you’ll find the acceleration jump when you hit 3500rpm to be nothing less than thrilling! Its like the turbo has really come alive.

As a guideline for the below figures – adding tuning parts (ie exhausts, air filters) often provide 2-4 bhp extra per application…

Smart Roadster 80bhp --> in excess of 106bhp after remap
Smart ForTwo 700cc 61bhp --> in excess of 84bhp after remap

That’s an increase of nearly 40%
